Mofi was not surprised that her art was desired and even popular. What she didn’t like however was how market forces were influencing artists all around her, and beginning to creep into her own work as well. Her dad once told her “Just like gravity bends space-time around it, money is a force that distorts people’s behavior around itself.”

Mofi saw the power that money had, and feared she could not escape its grip. Money was telling artists to create art pieces that are rare — pieces that people would want to collect and hide away from the world. And while many artists maintained their style and aesthetics, some of the most “successful” ones created art devoid of soul — they created art that simply sells.

But Mofi wanted to share her creativity with the world, and vowed to never compromise on this conviction. Was Mofi locked in an eternal struggle with market forces? Mofi believed there was a new opportunity on the horizon with cryptocurrency: money that is programmable. She realized that if you could program money, and set the rules for how it is created and used, you could also change the entire incentive structure of the market. She pondered: what if instead of promoting the creation of rare art pieces, we programmed money to incentivize people to create art that inspires and empowers people? The more Mofi thought about the idea the more she became convinced that such a system would work. But first she wanted to consult with her dad.
